The trade winds drive the spot
St Barth is swept most of the year by the trade winds, a steady breeze from the east and north-east. They are what makes Saint-Jean Bay work for windsurfing, wingfoiling and catamaran sailing: facing north-north-east, the bay takes them head-on or at an angle.
Over a day, the wind measured at the spot is often lighter at night and in the morning, then builds around midday. The 24-hour average therefore smooths out afternoons that are windier than it suggests: to pick a session, rely on the hourly forecast and the live wind.
